OPTIONS AND IMPLICATIONS OF THE PAYMENT OF ONE-OFF SOCIAL BENEFITS TO HOUSEHOLDS IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC IN RESPONSE TO HIGH INFLATION

Inflation well above the inflation target, together with slow real wage growth, was significantly contributing to a decline in the real wealth of Czech households. However, the situation is not only affecting the Czech Republic, but also other EU countries. Therefore, individual countries are taking measures to mitigate the impact of the above while at the same time fulfilling the role of the welfare state. One of the possible instruments is a one-off benefit to households, which would, however, have other consequences. The aim of this paper is to identify the possible consequences of the payment of one-off social benefits to households in the Czech Republic as a tool to minimise the negative impact on household incomes due to inflation. The aim of the paper will be achieved by applying selected economic theories and indicative calculations based on available data. The purpose of the paper is to demonstrate the potential strength and side effects of the selected government decision.
